Associate: All occurances of a particular Possible in a Row, Column, or Box are confined to a single Segment.

In this example, the Associate is the Segment containing the 3's (coloured pink) - ie the three Squares at the bottom of the seventh Column (counting from the left). These 3's do not occur in the other two Segments of the same Column, so the 3 solution for that Column must be in that Segment. The associated Box that contains the same Segment must also have it's 3 Solution there - and not in the other two Segments of the Box. The 3's elswhere in the Box (outlined in orange) are impossible solutions and can be removed. More...

In this third example, the Associate is the Segment containing the 8's (coloured pink) - ie the three Squares at the bottom of the sixth Column (counting from the left). These 8's do not occur in the other two Segments of the associated Box, so the 8 solution for that Box must be in that Segment. The Column must also have it's 8 Solution there - and not in the other two Segments of the Column. The 8's elswhere in the Column (outlined in orange) are impossible solutions and can be removed.
